What Shawnigan Dental Has To Offer:
New Patients: We welcome new patients to our practice, particularly if you have a dental concern or children. Dr. Lawless is very accomplished in dealing with patients that have dental phobias and children of all ages. “Sometimes we need someone to hold our hand in uncertain circumstances.”
Regular screening, early diagnosis and referrals for any serious oral conditions: All recall and new patient examinations include screenings for oral cancer. Whilst we don’t like to mention the big “C” many of us have either been affected by this ourselves or know of someone in our lives. The overall survival rate for oral cancer is 52%, but if discovered early it is over 80%.
Hygiene services and Periodontal screening: Periodontal or gum disease is the number one cause of tooth loss. Good oral hygiene, diet and regular dental examinations and hygiene appointments will ensure you avoid this condition.
Paediatric Dentistry: Dr. Lawless worked exclusively for 2 years in PEI with children aged 0-17 years. She is accomplished at dealing with children of all ages. We stress prevention measures and educate parents in the importance of maintaining that early dentition in order to prevent later problems with crowding. We offer specialist referrals, but intend to see all children by the age of 1 year. Early screening is essential for a healthy mouth, in order to prevent these referrals.
Crowns and Bridges: These dental procedures are used to either fix injured, discoloured or cracked teeth or to fill spaces. These procedures are used to also prevent teeth from further injury. We are able to save teeth from extraction by using these methods.
Cosmetic Dentistry: Veneers and whitening are services that we provide regularly. Veneers can be used to whiten discoloured teeth, straighten moderately crooked teeth without braces, rebuild broken teeth and lengthen worn teeth. They are so beautifully made that it is difficult for even a dentist to discern if they are actually there.
